To gather positions of candidates in the municipal election I am e-mailing the candidates the following questions:
- What type of bicycle riding do you do and how often?
The types of cycling I am thinking of are commuting, recreational cycling, or mountain biking. Finding out where they ride is important as it will help understand what issues they are familiar with.
- What do you think your municipality has done well in cycling and where do you feel improvements are needed?
This is a pretty open ended question. Many municipalities have done an excellent job over the last few years and I think those on council deserve a chance to toot their own horn. I also feel that every municipality has some things that could be done better.
- Do you feel more money should be spent on cycling programs and what do you feel the priorities for spending should be?
The bottom line is always money. Lots of things cost money: planning, street infrastructure, bicycle racks, promotional material, maps, etc. It should probably also be noted that there are some things (bylaws for example) that don't cost the municipality much direct money.
So far I have concentrated on Vancouver and the North Shore.
The responses I have gotten back so far are:

If any candidate in any municipality in Greater Vancouver would like to ensure that their position be known who I have not yet e-mailed, please e-mail your answers to these questions to:
