Peter Ladner, City of Vancouver responds to Cycling QuestionsThe first response back was from Peter Ladner who is a current member of Vancouver City council and is running for re-election as part of the NPA party. Here is his response: 1. What type of bicycle riding do you do and how often? I ride to work downtown or at city hall or both 5x a week. Also sporadic trips on weekends, now including some longer road rides for pleasure. 2. What do you think your municipality has done well in cycling and where do you feel improvements are needed? We have done well in linking all areas of the city with off-main-street bike routes that are well-marked, include push-button traffic lights at major intersections, and have some automobile restrictions. The new bike lanes downtown are also a welcome improvement. Further improvements: fill in the gaps (e.g. from Cypress to Alma along Cornwall and Pt. Grey Rd.); finish building out the bicycle plan (e.g. Helmken St. greenway across the downtown peninsula); add more bicyle-carrying capacity on buses and SkyTrain; more protected bike storage options at major transit hubs. 3. Do you feel more money should be spent on cycling programs and what do you feel the priorities for spending should be? Yes, we should be spending more on cycling. Priorities should be to complete the city's cycling plan, complete the Central Valley Greenway, add more protected lanes downtown; do whatever else the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition and City of Vancouver Bicycle Advisory Committee recommends to get
