Wayne Hunter,District of North Vancouver, Responds

Wayne Hunter is a council candidate in the District of North Vancouver.

1. What type of bicycle riding do you do and how often?

I am not a regular biker. (Particularly since our mountain bikes were stolen 2 months ago.) Participant in last year's "Storm the North Shore" eco-adventure race.

2. What do you think your municipality has done well in cycling and where do you feel improvements are needed?

Our work at the District of North Vancouver has focused on further collaboration with the City of North Vancouver and other agencies in an effort to set new priorities for additional integrated cycling routes..including in the Seymour area and the western part of the District..in the Edgemont area. Additional improvements can be anticipated from ongoing input from our Joint Bicycle Advisory Committee, with a particular focus on improved safety, on and off street routing, crossings and supporting infrastructure. Our major focus will be on trying to establish dedicated capital funding for major improvements which have been identified.

3. Do you feel more money should be spent on cycling programs and what do you feel the priorities for spending should be?

Cycling programs are an important part of our urban transportation planning, and in the context of some significant financial constraints in our municipality, it will be important that current funding levels be maintained.

It should also be noted that within our District, we are currently engaged in a major review of our recently released Alpine Recreational Study, focusing on the development, management and sustainability of our increased mountain bike activity.
