Jim Cuthbert, District of North Vancouver, Responds

Jim Cuthbert is current councillor in the District of North Vancouver and is a Mayoral candidate.

1. What type of bicycle riding do you do and how often?

Until very recently, I rode to and from work 4x a day (home for lunch), 5 days a week since 1987 in both North Vancouver and Victoria as well as recreational trail/street riding on the weekends. Currently I ride on a regular basis for excercize and enjoyment.

2. What do you think your municipality has done well in cycling and where do you feel improvements are needed?

Fair. Additional bicycle routes (as in Vancouver), bicycle lanes (as in Victoria), racks, end-of-trip facilities (storage rooms, lockers, showers, etc) are required.

3. Do you feel more money should be spent on cycling programs and what do you feel the priorities for spending should be?

Yes. See 2 above. I was a founding member of the GVRD Bicycle Task Force (along with Councillor Gordon Price) in the 1990s and served on the Task Force during development of the GVRD's bicycle plan, map and negotiations with the Province for municipal bicycle infrastructe grants. I actively supported the development of the City and District of North Vancouver's Bicycle Master Plan and am a strong advocate for full implementation of the original and revised Plan.
