Wendy Qureshi, District of North Vancouver, Responds

Wendy Qureshi is a candidate for Council in the District of North Vancouver.

1. What type of bicycle riding do you do and how often?

I ride only about once a month lately and not in the forests. I am in support of accommodating bicycling in the community. I believe in providing bicycle lanes as part of any new development and more money and resources to accommodate bicycling in general.

2. What do you think your municipality has done well in cycling and where do you feel improvements are needed?

The District has not done well when it comes to accommodate bicycling. Indeed the Lynn Valley Community Plan envisioned dedicated bicycle lanes in the Lynn Valley Core area but this was not carried out. The bicycle community and the bicycle riders themselves, unlike the mountain bikers, did not push very strongly for it. This apathy is not the case with the mountain bikers who are well organized, albeit mountain biking is a separate and specialized sport.

3. Do you feel more money should be spent on cycling programs and what do you feel the priorities for spending should be?

I believe in providing bicycle lanes as part of any new development and more money and resources to accommodate bicycling in general.
