Bruce Crowe, District of North Vancouver, Responds

Bruce Crowe is a council candidate in the District of North Vancouver.

1. What type of bicycle riding do you do and how often?

I ride frequently, nearly daily until the rains come, on a hybrid bike mainly. I commuted for 7 years on my bike. I was also a volunteer at the first Mountain Bike Conference a year ago and my son’s favorite pastime is biking with me.

2. What do you think your municipality has done well in cycling and where do you feel improvements are needed?

There are some biking lanes but most don’t connect well for commuters. The Alpine Recreational Study undertaken by the District of N. Van has not significantly improved the situation for mountain biking fans. I think the mountain biking community has been disappointed by the lack of progress. Improvements did seem to help with the Lions Gate bridge.

3. Do you feel more money should be spent on cycling programs and what do you feel the priorities for spending should be?

More money isn’t the answer it’s a need to listen to the biking community volunteers and use the money that’s available efficiently. Most bikers like to participate and are concerned about their environment and have ideas they want to share. Let’s make it easier to communicate, I'd push for a simpler way to poll people, by email or mailouts rather than occasional meetings.
